Ballston Lake, NY - Big Apple Basketball Public Address Announcer, Spencer Ross will be inducted into the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame today.
"It's a wonderful honor to be going into this hall of fame with many members who are already [inducted into] the National Baseball Hall of Fame," said Ross. "It kind of gives me chills."
Ross will be inducted with other baseball legends, including Ken Singleton (Orioles, Mets, Expos player and current Yankee announcer), Lee Mazzilli (Mets, Yankees, Rangers), Frank Viola (Twins, Mets, Red Sox) and Tom Browning (Reds). This will be Ross' third hall of fame induction, including the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame and New York State Basketball Hall of Fame.
With the exception of the Mets, Ross has called play-by-play for every professional New York area sports franchise. He has announced for the Yankees, Knicks, Nets, Giants, Jets, Rangers, Islanders and Devils. He has also called games for the Boston Celtics and Florida State Seminoles. Ross was the lead play by play announcer for the 1992 USA Olympic Dream Team with Dick Vitale, and has worked nationally for the NCAA Basketball Tournament, the NFL on NBC, and Major League Baseball.
Ross is scheduled to be on the sideline again during the 2015-2016 Big Apple Basketball high school events, volunteering his time as a public address announcer.
"Big Apple Basketball has become a part of my life", added Ross. "I look forward every year to helping these student-athletes take the next step forward in their educational and athletic experience. I know how much it means to them to have these opportunities because of Big Apple Basketball."
"We are lucky to have someone of Spencer's stature assist our program," said BAB President, Jason Curry. "He brings a high degree of professionalism and wisdom that has been beneficial to anyone who has crossed paths with him at our events."
